Short trip to Gunung Lang, Ipoh

Assalamualaikum wbt..

Since the day of election, we haven't went back to Ipoh to my in-law's. We had quite a long weekend last week and spent our three days fasting at hub's hometown and only came back on Sunday. Come to find out, in all the years he's lived in Ipoh, he's never been to Gunung Lang! So of course, we had to go! Aulia' was super excited for jalan-jalan and, let's be honest we were excited to get a short getaway and have some relaxation outta KL's hustle and bustle. The last few months we haven't had as much time to go for a vacation. Not even a short one, so it was nice to spend some time together (and not trying to have a conversation over a crying baby or the crazy workload!). We had a blast! We spent all afternoon Sunday for boat ride, and then spent the rest of the evening a two-kilometre boardwalk over swampland, admiring the manmade cascading waterfalls atop a limestone hills and entertaining our lil' girl at the playground.

So much fun hanging with my lil family for the weekend! Our next target is to go for a babymoon trip to The Banjaran Hotspring, Ipoh:)

14 Ramadhan 1434: Aulia' turns TWO

Assalamualaikum wbt..

I'm sitting here on the eve of Aulia's second birthday thinking back to when I was pregnant, how much I LOVED being preggy, how anxious I was to meet my daughter, and how scared I was that I wouldn't know how to raise a child.  Here I am now about to celebrate my baby girl turning 2. Has it really been 2 years already? All I can say is I am in awe. In awe of how amazing Aulia' is. In awe how comfortable I feel now as a mother. In awe that 2 years have already gone by. In awe of how much I 100% adore my daughter.

During the last couple of weeks, I've really taken the time to sit back and enjoy Aulia' and our relationship. 2 years have flown by. I can't imagine how fast the next 15 years are going to be. Before I know it, she'll be sitting for SPM, graduating high school and going off to college and my baby will no longer a baby. Well, I know I'm always going to call her my baby, but our lives will never been as simple as they are right now.

Aulia' has really started to blossom into an independent girl. She wants to do so much on her own, yet also want to be just like ibu. She really us my shadow day in and day out, continuously wanting to help me with chores and daily tasks. Whether it be doing the laundry, sweeping, or picking out groceries, she's  always  eager to help. Along with this desire to help, Aulia' is also really starting to become more and more independent. Just the other day I had picked out a pair of shoes for her, which she scoffed at and, instead, asked to wear her Fiffy shoes.

This was first! Aulia' picked out her own shoes. I didn't get frustrated but instead welcomed her expressing her own opinion. I was actually so excited that this happened. I want her to feel like she has a say in some things.  I will reserve the battles for other more important issues, shoes not being one of them.

Aulia' has officially started imaginative play. For awhile now, we've been playing mom and baby bear. She loved when I swing her toy cradle and make her baby bear milk. She's really starting to get more and more into playing baby bear and put her 'babies' to sleep. When I'm making dinner, she loves to bring some food for her 'babies' and pretend to feed them. I always make a big deal about it and act surprised that she made her 'babies' something. It's so important to encourage such play. She loves to bathe her babies, feed them, rock them, etc. I've also noticed when we play together, she's starting to show more and more concern for the well-being of her toys/ babies and along with this me as well. If I hurt myself, she's so concerned and wants to know what happened. I LOVE that she's becoming such a caring, compassionate person. This is one of the most important characteristics to me and love watching her grow in this way.

Aulia' and I have been working on quite a lot of skills at home as well. I am so impressed that she can count to 10 before turning 2. This seems like such a huge skill for her to have at such a young age. I could be wrong, but I'm really impressed. We work on colors and the alphabet all the time. She's getting better and starting to memorize some colors and letters. Pink and red seem to be her favourite colors to call out. One thing we've been working on for awhile that I'm most proud of is manners. I love that Aulia' says thank you and she remember to recite du'a every time we had meal. Even before she had breast milk.

Lastly, as to be expected, Aulia' vocabulary is booming. I know a lot of this has to do with the fact that I talk to her non-stop and teach her new words. I think it's important to take the time to sit and tell her what things are called. She totally surprised me the other day when she called out Caterpillar correctly in the car. I then noticed that the caterpillar toy was in the car at the dashboard. It's little things like this that truly amaze me. Aulia' is SO smart! Her range of knowledge seems so impressive to me. When we talk, we can have little conversation now and she demonstrates all day long that she comprehends new things she's learning every day.

I keep saying it and will say it again. I once thought that a lot happens from birth to one year old, but there's a thousand time more growth from one to two years old. I have absolutely loved all the changes Aulia' has gone through this past year and am excited for all the new experiences the upcoming year holds. I can't say it enough..I'm in complete awe of my baby girl. She is growing up so fast and becoming a truly beautiful girl inside and out. I feel so lucky and blessed to have brought such a wonderful person into the world and can't wait to see what amazing things she's going to do in her life.

Happy birthday sweet pea. .Know that Ibu and Papa loves you more than you could ever imagine. Thank you for being such an amazing daughter. Hugs and kisses forever and ever.

Dear Aulia'..

Dear Aulia'

It just dawned on me last night that you will be 2 on you birthday next month. Not 24 months, 2 years old! No longer will we count how many months old you are, but only the years. {no worries, we will count 1/2 birthdays}. How is time flying by so fast? You amaze me each day. Your ability to count to 10 makes me cheer for joy each and every time. The fact that you know colors when I challenge you, makes me look at you with my mouth on the floor. "You are right, Papa's shirt IS white!" I could sing "Twinkle twinkle Little Star" and "Incy Wincy Spider" over and over {and over} again just to hear your giggles and claps! Every month brings something new and I look forward to the next!

Thank for being you,
Love Always,
Ibu.

Herb-Roasted Chicken and Vegetables

Assalamualaikum wbt..

Recently it's been haze around here in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. I'm not sure whether Brunei was affected but all I know is that we really REALLY need to stay indoor and eat healthy food!

I was thinking to roast those chickens in my freezer and always wanted to add vegetables as a protein option to accompany them.  The herb roasted chicken and vegetables was inspired by Martha Stewart's recipe found in her website. Literally, I don't follow exactly the ingredients as Martha's recipe, I actually invent a new one as I want to use the existing herbs that I have in my kitchen and as far as the vegetables go, I just use whatever I have or whatever looks good at the market. Hubby declared this the best roasted chicken I have ever made and I agree! So dust off that oven and get healthy food started!

Ingredients:

1 whole chicken, rinsed and patted dry ( I used half chicken, cut into 8 pieces)
Coarse salt
4 large potatoes cut into halved
3 cloves of garlic
Half small bowl of lemon juice
2 clutch of tomatoes cut into halved
A bundle of asparagus (I loves Asparagus!)
A pinch of Italian Herbs blend
A pinch of Rosemary Herbs
2 teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil

What to do:

In a large bowl, whisk together the potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, onion and asparagus with olive oil and season with salt. Then, preheat oven to  250 degrees. Season chicken with salt, rosemary, italian herbs and lemon juice. Scattered vegetables around the chicken. Pour another teaspoon of virgin olive oil into pan and roast chicken and vegetables about 1 and 1/2 hour.

My herb-roasted chicken and vegetable is ready..Tadaa!

Overall Rating: 8.5 /10. Hubby was certainly impressed. There a few other recipes I'm eyeing to re-create from Martha's site since I already have an OVEN now. yeay! This dish was an interesting twist to the usual Malay-Italian fare. There was still strong Malay taste when it came to the dish. So there you have it, my perfect lazy way of cooking a one dish for Saturday dinner:)

Booos the Word

Boo. Or Ibu.

A simple word out of a child's mouth that can melt any woman's heart.

Except my little one uttered those words about 2 months ago @ 21 months and have been doing so every since.. *does the happy dance*

Before this it has always been papa papa papa and I admit, it used to annoy the crap out of me coz I was the one who would wake up at night to put her back to sleep when she cries, I'm the one who she insist carries her when she refuses to sit in the shopping cart when we're out at the groceries store, I'm the one she wants to hold when she wants some comforting while rejecting her papa, yet she would call out her old man from time to time.
I'd sit her down on the bed and teach her to call me 'eeee..booooo' I would go on like a freakin mad woman broken record. This would go on for a few minutes because I believe the more I drilled those glorious words into her tiny head she would eventually say it out loud and all will be good in my world. 5 minutes usually goes by and God knows I would have uttered those word like a hundred times and you know what she would say?

"AABUUU"!!!! and then proceed to giggle away!!

Mad mother: Can you say Eeeee...boooo...ibu

Aulia': Abu!! Abu!!

Yes, even that child mocked me so much that I was starting to think father-daughter were ganging up against me on purpose.

And it didn't help that some people were so proud with the fact that my child was calling out for her father instead of me and even asked me several times why doesn't she call me ibu.

Honestly how do I even answer that??!

Naturally I said it's because we always teach her at home to call Papa, it's always where's papa, ask papa and she picked it up. As a mother, i'm always in front of her face, so all she needs to do is cry a little and I'm there next to her.

Silence.

BAH!!

But now it's ibu ibu ibu ibu who's-papa ibu ibu, papa-who ibu ibu ibu to the point of it being overwhelming.

Aulia': aaaaeeee..booo

Not-So-Crazy-Mom-Anymore: Ibu..

Aulia': eeee..booo..

Not-So-Crazy-Mom-Anymore: Ibu..

Aulia': eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..boo!

Yes and that can go on for a cool 5 minutes. And she sounds the CUTEST when she's calling out for me. No words can describe the feeling!!

Screw what people have to say. Who cares if I wasn't the first parent she called out for. Who damn cares. I'm enjoying every second of this.

This is the best feeling ever.

*does the happy happy happpyyy dance again*

Monster University movie date with Boo!

Assalamualaikum wbt..

When I found out  that the two lovable monster will be back on-screen, hubby and I got really excited not for ourselves but for our little Boo who is so fascinated with cartoon characters.  Last Sunday, our little family had a movie date as to kickstart the month of July and watched Monster University! Aulia' was so excited for this movie and on overall the movie was very entertaining. I remember the cute character, Boo in Monster Inc. was just like Aulia'. Even cuter, she laugh and giggle and pointing fingers to the screen each time when she saw Sullivan appear.

The story focuses with Mike and Sully, two monster just trying to be the best Scarers they can be. And how the worst enemies became best friend in the end. The story has a clear message of never giving up on your dream, no matter what's the obstacles, disappointment as long as you are giving your best and putting your heart into it, you will succeed.  Thats the real message that we should deliver to our kids.

This movie is just perfect for family and your kids will definitely gonna love 'em. I bet you will because Aulia' love it:)

Mom and Boo :)
